I recently scored an older Toyota RAV4 for a steal – just 6,000 AED! Even though it’s a 2005 model, this little {Toyota RAV4 2005 GCC} has been a rugged and reliable ride so far. Keep readin’ for my impressions of this retro SUV.

Quick Intro to the OG RAV4

The RAV4 pioneered the small crossover SUV segment when it debuted in the mid 90s. By 2005 it was in its second generation with chunky off-road looks, although these were mainly city cruisers. This one I got has about 140K km but Toyota’s are known to run forever.

Old School but Tough Drivetrain

Under the hood lives a 2.0L 4-cylinder matched to a 4-speed automatic transmission. Not fancy, but this powertrain combo is known to be indestructible with proper maintenance. It has enough juice for daily driving and off-road fun.

The Interior Shows Its Age

Being from 2005, the interior is old school:

• Manual roll-down windows
• No fancy screens or electronics
• The basic radio still works tho!
• Cloth seats are comfy and stain-resistant
• Back seats fold down to haul stuff

Toyota Toughness

This RAV4 was clearly well-cared for and has that famed Toyota build quality. I don’t anticipate any major issues for a long time thanks to its reputation for durability. Finding parts is easy too.

Great Bang for the Buck
